Changes to the Currently Adopted Codes and Standards have Determined that Spot Type Detection 

is Not Permitted at the Top of Elevator Hoist Ways and Elevator Pits.

Depending Upon Building and Applications, Options now Would be 

Air Sampling Smoke Detection or

Linear Heat Detection

Both Options Allow for the Detector to be Readily Accessible for Maintenance, Service and Testing.
